Thank you for your interest in taking part in the XR4Kids online community, which will run from 16-23rd of February 2026.

The XR4Kids study explores how extended reality (XR) technologies-such as virtual reality (VR)-could help children and young people manage pain and distress during cancer treatment.

This study is funded by Griffith University and has received ethical approval from the Griffith University Human Research Ethics Committee (GU Ref No: 2025/526).

In this online community, we'll bring together:

  • Parents and caregivers of children who have experienced cancer treatment

  • Children and young people (aged 8-18) who have received or are recovering from cancer treatment

  • Healthcare professionals who support children and families in paediatric oncology

Parents and children will participate together using the same login, though some activities will be designed specifically for children and young people.

The XR4Kids online community will include a small number of activities that you can complete in your own time, at your own pace, during the week of 16-23 February 2026. You can choose when to log in and how much to share in each session.

The online community will be hosted through Recollective, a secure research platform used by Griffith University to support digital participation and reflection.
All data shared in Recollective are stored securely on encrypted servers, accessible only to authorised members of the XR4Kids research team.

While many of the activities involve personal reflections and experiences, your identity will remain protected at all times. You will appear under a participant ID (not your real name), and your responses will be visible only within the secure community environment. No identifying details will be shared outside the research team.

In this short survey, we'll collect some basic information about you to help us understand who is interested in participating. You'll also have the option to indicate if you would prefer to take part in an online interview instead of the community, if capacity allows within the research team.

After completing this short survey and electronically signing the consent form, you will be sent information on how to join the XR4Kids online community, including your login details and participation instructions.

If you'd like to join the XR4Kids study, please proceed with the screening questions below and then review and electronically sign the consent form to confirm your participation.

We appreciate your time and look forward to hearing your ideas and experiences!

Dr Karin Plummer
